Research team led by Associate Professor Chang Genzhu of the Lanzhou Institute of Husbandry and Pharmaceutical Sciences (LIHPS) of CAAS, successfully introduced a new variety of grassed named “Poapratensis L.cv.Haibo” (Haibo Bluegrass) that mark new development of pasture industry. “Poapratensis L. cv. Haibo” is a perennial herb whose underground rhizome is developed. Newly introduced variety reduces the cost of planting by breeding seeds itself. It characterized by strong drought resistance and slow life which reduce the cost of maintenance that makes great significance in the pasture production.

The variety has soft leaves, moderate blade width, dark green luster color, and its grass layer of sod is neat uniform, green period was long, lawn landscape effect was good, which can be used for planting all kinds of lawn.

It’s important to know that the regional test results showed the Poapratensis L. cv. Haibo has good ecological adaptability in half arid area, Semi-humid zone of the loess plateau and desert oasis region in hexi corridor area. It also has ability resist drought, cold, trampling, long green period，normal breeding and low maintenance (low cost).
