Biotechnology Research and Development

　　Molecular marker assisted breeding programs are conducted by most of CAAS' crop science institutes, for example, the Biotechnology Research Center, the Institute of Crop Germplasm Research, the Institute of Crop Breeding and Cultivation and the China National Rice Research Institute.
　　 A Bt gene has been successfully synthesized , modified and transferred into Chinese major cotton cultivars. Five transgenic cotton lines with more than 80% insecticidal activity have been obtained.
